North America - 20,000 sq.ft.
Lightology is the fruit of over two decades of labor and dreams on the part of its founder, Greg Kay. A Detroit native, Kay had an interest in design from an early age. He completed his training as a master electrician in the 1970s, and soon spotted an entrepreneurial niche in the cultural climate of the day, as a roller disco lighting specialist. This business quickly flourished across the Midwest, and before long Kay was approached by his main competitor, Paul Gregory of LiteLab. Gregory, famous for designing the dance floor in the film "Saturday Night Fever," showed Kay some finer points of aesthetic design, beginning a partnership that would last for years. A big change came in 1983, when Kay attended the first Lightfair convention. There, he saw low-voltage halogen lighting appearing in clean, contemporary fixture designs. He had found a special opportunity: to combine his technical savvy with his appreciation for sleek, modern lines by creating a company to meet these new lighting demands.
